Cuero Design is a Swedish family-owned company whose history began in 1986. The company’s founder, Lars Kjerstadius, initially imported high-quality leather goods from South America to Sweden. In the process, he discovered the classic Butterfly Chair, whose distinctive shape captivated him for many years. He spent about 15 years refining the proportions, seating comfort, and quality of this well-known design.
The result of this development is the Pampa Mariposa Butterfly Chair. Compared to many traditional versions, this model features more generous proportions and an adapted shape designed to provide a comfortable, relaxed seating experience. The name “Mariposa” means “butterfly” in Spanish and refers both to the chair’s shape and to the brand’s South American roots.
Today, Cuero Design is run by the second generation of the family. The brand’s identity bridges Sweden and Argentina: Scandinavian clarity, functional design, and precise craftsmanship meet the warmth and naturalness of South American leather traditions. The brand’s logo also reflects this connection and is inspired by the landscape of Patagonia.
The collection focuses on natural and durable materials. The Pampa Mariposa is crafted from Italian leather approximately four millimeters thick and Swedish steel. The leather is shipped to Sweden, where it is selected, cut to size, and sewn. Thanks to the thickness of the material, the upholstery is designed to retain its shape over the long term and develop a unique patina with use.
In addition to leather, Cuero Design also offers the Butterfly Chair with natural Icelandic sheepskin or a canvas cover. A variety of colors, as well as black, chrome-plated, or particularly exclusive frames, allow for numerous design options. Matching stools complement the chairs and can be used either as footrests or as standalone seating.
The product line now extends well beyond the Butterfly Chair. Cuero Design offers dining chairs made of leather, sheepskin, or oak, bar stools, poufs, tables, lighting fixtures, coat racks, shoe racks, and other functional home accessories. In addition, the collection includes weather-resistant Butterfly Chairs, tables, and bar stools for outdoor use.
The furniture is designed with a clear focus on comfort, material quality, and durability. Vegetable-tanned leather, sturdy steel frames, and expert craftsmanship ensure that the products will last for many years. Some models are also shipped flat-packed, which reduces the shipping volume.
Cuero Design is ideal for spaces where a single piece of furniture is intentionally used as a focal point. The combination of striking form, natural finishes, and understated construction complements modern and minimalist interiors as well as rustic, industrial, or Scandinavian-inspired styles.
